Fraunhofer MEVIS – Diagnostic Information Technologies

The Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS develops real-world software solutions for image and data supported early detection, diagnosis, and therapy to drive the transformation of tomorrow’s digital, integrated precision medicine through systematic computer support. Strong focus is placed on cancer as well as diseases of the circulatory system, brain, breast, liver, and lung. The goal is to detect diseases earlier and more reliably, tailor treatments to each individual, and make therapeutic success more measurable.

The Fraunhofer MEVIS working group “Diagnostic Information Technologies” (MEVIS-DIT) in Aachen, in close collaboration with the Comprehensive Diagnostic Center Aachen (CDCA), will play a decisive role in the development of prototypical algorithms for image and data analysis, as well as their implementation in commercial software solutions suitable for everyday use. Particular attention is paid to projects in the field of OMICS data. This includes the development of automated and standardized workflows for the detection, segmentation, and extraction of biomarkers in the fields of radiomics and quantitative pathology. These data will be integrated into new data mining processes, which allow the identification of diagnostically relevant information of the OMICS data. The development of clinical decision systems will be carried out in close cooperation with the clinical working groups of the CDCA.

The strategic cooperation with the Institute of Experimental Molecular Imaging and the Chair of Image Processing enables direct integration of the project group into the existing research infrastructure in Aachen. Fraunhofer MEVIS is involved in research projects of both institutes and forms an important link between basic research and clinical implementation.
